A European packaging manufacturer

AT A GLANCE

Challenges

  • Electrical issues on site including tripping of circuit breakers and failure of cables.
  • No visibility of consumption for equipment on site
  • Unable to make any decisions without any information

Benefits

  • Data available to support business decisions
  • Harmonic filters and power factor correction installed to reduce energy losses on site.

OBJECTIVES

A European packing manufacturer had no ability to see beyond the metering point or where and how their electricity was being consumed.

The client had reported a number of electrical issues, including the false tripping of circuit breakers and the failure of cables.

SOLUTIONS

Enerlytic installed a monitoring device on one of the production machines. Enerlytic immediately started reporting power data via the insights tool

It was clear that the harmonics were extremely strong and caused significant losses in the transformer and the associated cables, and could also explain the nuisance tripping and early failure of some of the machine components. Along with the poor power factor, there were significant energy losses at the site.

Enerlytic worked with our partners who installed harmonic filters and power factor correction (PFC) equipment.

BENEFITS

  • Benefit One - The client was able to identify why they were having electrical issues, and get a solution to reduce the energy losses on site.
  • Benefit Two - The client had greater visibility of the energy use for specific pieces of equipment which allowed them to make better business decisions.
