CAF Rail – Full Industrial M&E Fit Out, Unit 10 Lowry Park

The Project

QUEST Electrical were appointed to deliver the full M&E fit out of Unit 10 at CAF Rail’s Lowry Park facility in Manchester, providing the electrical and mechanical infrastructure required for the new industrial facility.

The project involved a substantial package of electrical distribution, factory power, LED lighting, space heating and gas infrastructure, all coordinated around the operational requirements of the facility.

The Challenge

Transforming a new industrial unit into an operational facility required the electrical and mechanical services to be carefully coordinated across the factory.

The electrical infrastructure needed to provide sufficient capacity and local power distribution throughout the production environment, while the lighting installation needed to deliver appropriate illumination across the factory floor.

Alongside the electrical installation, a significant heating and gas package was required, including new and upgraded gas infrastructure capable of supporting both the factory heating system and operational equipment.

The Solution

QUEST delivered a comprehensive industrial M&E fit out package, including a new Schneider Powerpact 4 800A, 18-way TP&N main distribution panel complete with an 800A main switch and surge protection.

The electrical installation also included 3 new Schneider distribution boards and multiple factory power cluster boxes, providing local power distribution throughout the production area.

New LED high-bay lighting with emergency lighting provision was installed across the factory floor, achieving an average illuminance of approximately 512 lux.

The mechanical installation incorporated 5 x 50kW gas-fired unit heaters, providing a total installed heating capacity of 250kW, together with 9 destratification fans to assist with heat distribution throughout the factory.

The gas works included a new distribution system, an upgrade of the incoming gas meter to a G40 meter, and a gas main sized to accommodate the space-heating load together with simultaneous operation of one paint booth, based on an overall demand of approximately 49.32m³/hour.

The mechanical package also included gas pipework installation, purging, commissioning, certification and Stage 4 design.

The Result

The completed project transformed Unit 10 into a fully serviced industrial facility, providing CAF Rail with the electrical distribution, factory power, lighting, heating and gas infrastructure required for its operations.

By coordinating the electrical and mechanical elements as a complete package, the project demonstrates QUEST Electrical’s capability to deliver full industrial M&E fit outs and turnkey M&E solutions for manufacturing, engineering and industrial facilities.
